2015 Teen Volunteers

Thank you for choosing us as your volunteer location! Please read on to find out how you can help.

Summer volunteers must be between the ages of 13-18. You must commit to working at least 3 shifts over the course of the summer. You must be a “people person.” You should be a good communicator, patient, outgoing, and comfortable talking to people of all ages.

*Note: No court-required hours may be obtained through the teen volunteer program. *

What Would I Be Doing?

Summer volunteers help children, teens, and adults sign up and participate in our Summer Reading Program. This includes helping people with online forms, handing out prizes, and promoting our summer events. This opportunity is best for someone who is outgoing, comfortable talking to people of all ages, and able to work independently.

How Do I Sign Up?

Sign up begins on May 21st at the Teen Summer Volunteer Info Meeting:
Thursday, May 21st 7:00 PM
While it is not required that volunteers attend the info meeting, it’s a great way to find out more! Volunteers who attend the meeting will get the first chance to sign up for June volunteer shifts. June volunteer shifts sometimes fill up at the info meeting. There is no registration required to attend the meeting.

After Thursday, May 21st, sign up for shifts by stopping by the Youth Information Desk on the library’s lower level. June dates will be open for sign-up at that meeting and until all slots are filled. July dates will be open for sign-up on June 15th. August dates will be open for sign-up on July 13th. To sign up for a shift, stop by the Youth Information Desk. Shifts are available on a first come, first serve basis.

We need 2 volunteers for each of the following timeslots:
Monday-Thursday: 9AM-Noon, Noon-3PM, 3PM-6PM, 6PM-9PM
Friday: 9AM-Noon, Noon-3PM, 3PM-6PM
Saturday: 9AM-Noon, Noon-3PM, 3PM-5PM
The library is closed on Sundays during the summer.

If You Need to Cancel a Shift

If you sign up for a shift and later realize that you are unable to make it, please call the Youth Information Desk at 269/585-8740. We rely on our Teen Summer Volunteers to staff our Summer Reading table and need to know ASAP if you are unable to make a shift so that we may find a replacement.

Looking For More? Join the Teen Advisory Group!

Teen Advisory Group is a team of dedicated teen volunteers who plan youth events, help with book selection, and support the library in other more involved ways than the regular weekly shift volunteers. The monthly meetings are used to plan events and projects. Volunteers earn 1 service hour for every meeting that they attend. Our meeting schedule is below.

Tuesday, June 9th 6:30 PM
Tuesday, July 7th 6:30 PM
Tuesday, August 11th 6:30 PM
