The PDL Favorite Authors program is meant to get you on reserve lists fast. Simply indicate your choice of up to 15 authors from our list. We will do the work of putting you on hold for titles by those authors. Sit back and wait for the email to arrive. This program only covers Fiction Hardback materials by the authors listed on this form.
Although we cannot guarantee that you will always be first, we can guarantee that you will always be added to the list automatically.* Applications are available online or at the Adult Information Desk.
Following a “Better Safe Than Sorry” policy, your name will be placed on all titles by an author whether your decide to read the material or not. (Example: If you would choose James Patterson as your favorite author, your reserves would go on the Alex Cross series, the Women’s Murder Club series, and any miscellaneous material, except non-fiction, that he may write.) Just let us know when you are not interested and we will pass the material on to the next person.

The Favorite Author’s program is limited to non-reciprocal borrowers only.
Why would I want to be on the list for Favorite Authors?
Priority will be given to members of the Favorite Authors program, when titles of these authors are ordered.Their holds will be placed first.
Are all authors on this list?
We have chosen 134 of our most popular authors to be on this list. (Example: Patterson, Evanovich, Koontz, Parker, etc.)
How is the order of the holds for patrons determined?
We use a randomizing function to order the patrons, each time a new book by a particular Author is received.
Are the same patrons always at the top of the list?
No. We use a randomizing function that changes the order of patrons names each time we place a hold for that particular Author.
What items won’t be part of the Favorite Authors holds that are placed on Favorite Authors titles?
Holds on hardcover editions that reprint previously published titles, Large Print editions, audio book versions, non-fiction, and multi-author collections edited by Favorite Authors authors will not be placed as part of the Favorite Authors program.
Can I request an author who is not on the Favorite Authors form?
No. Only the authors listed on the form are part of the Favorite Authors Program, and only regular print hardcover titles or original paperbacks of new adult fiction by those authors will have holds placed for the patrons. Patrons can feel free to suggest authors for future revisions.
Will the form ever be updated?
We update the form periodically. Dead authors (at least the ones who stop writing) and authors whose popularity has slipped will be dropped to make room for new and more popular authors.
I am already in the Favorite Authors program but am not sure if an author is on my list. How do I check what authors I requested?
The database is secure and not all library staff has access, but you can call the library or ask a librarian at the library. They can check, and let you know, but it may take a day. If you aren’t sure whether or not an author is on your list there is no harm in just adding them. If they were on your list to begin with they will stay on.
How can I check to see where I am on the list for a particular Favorite Authors book?
Just like your regular hold list. The title will appear in your account holds list with the number that represents your place in the hold line. You can check you account online at by visiting our library catalog.
Can someone sign up for the Favorite Authors on the library web site?
Right now it is not possible to sign up on the Portage District Library web site. A printable copy of the Favorite Authors form is available here
How does someone add or remove authors from their list of requests?
Fill out a new Favorite Authors form.At the top mark it “additions” or “deletions.”
What happens to holds that are placed before the Favorite Authors hold?
The priority is changed on the hold list to move them down the list below the Favorite Authors customer holds. The order of those holds is maintained. If a member of the Favorite Authors already has a hold on the list the priority of that hold is changed to place them on the list in the appropriate spot. Actually they may move up or down the list.
What if there are no other holds on a title?
Then that hold will be the first hold after all the Favorite Authors holds are placed.
