Get help with your Reading Devices: Nook, Kindle, Sony Reader, iPad, and many more
The Portage District Library offers you multiple ways to borrow free e-Books for your reading devices. We offer books through our collaboration with 24 other libraries at our MCLS database (Midwest Collaborative for Library Services http://ebooks.mlcnet.org/) powered by OverDrive. The primary focus of the Consortium’s database is the New York Times best sellers and the hottest adult and young adult authors. We currently (because of budget constraints) do not do back list titles or B-string authors.
We offer a smaller database from the same company called OverDrive PDL, (http://pdl.lib.overdrive.com/). Our primary focus is on popular authors that our patrons are reading. We welcome suggestions for authors and titles and most suggestions will be purchased for the collection. Also, (for PC only and not reading devices) we offer a source for kid’s picture and beginning chapter books called Tumblebooks (http://portagelibrary.info/parents-kids/tumblebooks/). This is a canned collection and we cannot add or modify the selection.
All of these resources can be accessed from our website at http://www.portagelibrary.info in the “Books and More” section. (http://www.portagelibrary.info/books-and-more/ereaders/).
Starting March 5, 2012 the Portage District library will be offering weekly drop-in sessions to help you get started with or troubleshoot problems with OverDrive and your reading device. Contact the library for more information on these Drop-in sessions.
During March the sessions will be held at 10am-12pm March 5; 2pm-4pm March12; 6pm-8pm March 19; and 2pm-4pm March 26.
