10th Annual Food for Fines Campaign

Posted August 13, 2010 in  Events

Help out your community.

Clear your library fines.

This has been a tough year for more families than ever in our community. The Portage Community Center (PCC) needs your help. During the summer, food donations are much lower than at other times of the year, yet the number of families in the Portage community who need support is increasing.

Between August 16th and August 28th, you can help by dropping off donations of non-perishable food items to the Portage District Library. If you have an overdue charge on your account, the library is offering to waive $1.00 in overdue charges for most items you donate through us during that time. All donations go directly to PCC to help families in Portage. This is a great opportunity to make your contribution do “double duty” – help out our community and clear your library fines.

Please remember, we cannot accept glass containers, perishable items, expired items, or government issued food. While we do accept ramen noodles, we now require five individual packages for you to receive a waiver of $1.00. Waivers can only be applied towards overdue charges on materials that have been returned. No other types of fees are eligible for waiver.

A special donation site will be located in the Atrium of the library to the left of the entrance, near the Community Information Wall. Donations will not be taken at the Checkout Desk or any other regular public service location this year. Look for signs as you enter the library that will point participants in the right direction.

Donations will not be accepted before Monday, August 16 or after Saturday, August 28. Our regular hours are Monday-Thursday 9am-9pm, Friday 9am-6pm, and Saturday 9am-5pm. We are closed on Sundays during the summer.
